Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How soon will my order be shipped?
A. You will need to allow a minimum of 10 - 12 weeks processing and delivery time.
Due to the high volume of incoming fish during the peak of the sport fishing season, processing and delivery times may vary.
Q. How will my order be shipped?
A. The canned and frozen portions of your order are shipped separately.
The canned portion will be boxed and shipped via ground.
The frozen portion will be packed for shipping in styrofoam cooler(s) containing frozen gel freezer packs. Your order will be delivered to your door by FedEx Air overnight delivery.
Q. Will I be contacted prior to shipping?
A. Yes. Our representative will contact you to confirm a shipping date to ensure you will be available to accept your frozen shipment on its arrival date.
You will not be contacted prior to the ground portion of your order being shipped.
Q. Can St. Jean’s ship around the world?
A. We can ship canned and frozen products anywhere in Canada, USA, EU, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, and many other countries.
Please refer to our web site for other shipping destinations.
Q. The customer has more fish than able to take home on the plane…..Can St. Jean’s arrange for shipping only?
A. YES! You can drop your fish off at one of St. Jean’s depots where it will be kept frozen (see our web site for our depot locations). We will truck your fish to our Nanaimo facility, for repacking and shipping. Our representative will contact you to confirm a shipping date to ensure you will be available to accept your frozen shipment on its arrival date.
Q. Will St. Jean’s customers receive their own fish back?
A. YES! St. Jean’s is proud to give our customers the satisfaction of receiving the very same fish caught during their fishing trip.
Our customers fill out a processing receipt card with their shipping and credit card information. This card will accompany their box(es) of fish to our Nanaimo processing facility. Each processing receipt card will receive in addition to their lodge or depot order number, a St. Jean’s order number, which identifies the order throughout the entire process.
Q. How does vacuum packing preserve the frozen fish?
A. The vacuum pack process enhances the freezer storage time, allowing you to store your frozen fish for 12-24 months as long as the seal is not broken. Vacuum packed fish is not shelf stable, so it must remain frozen prior to use (-5F or colder is best). When you are ready to enjoy your fish, just break the seal and thaw the fish in the refrigerator. St. Jean’s Cannery does not use any artificial preservatives.
Q. Does St. Jean’s process halibut, tuna and other bottom fish?
A. Yes! Halibut and tuna can be smoked, canned, filleted and vacuum packed.
We also fillet and vacuum pack other types of bottom fish.
**Canning for halibut and bottom fish not recommended.
